♫ Vök – Waterfall

‘Breath in for the last time..’ It actually really feels that’s what I’m doing while listening to this hypnotic song, I forget to breath.. Too bad this feeling is not represented in the video, something dreamier would have suited me better. ‘Waterfall‘ is taken from Vök’s new EP ‘Circles‘. Vök was founded in 2013 and means ‘hole in the ice’. Having a soft spot for music in unknown, incomprehensible languages, especially the Nordic ones, I was already in love with their previous EP ‘Tension‘.

Hoping for a miracle (or just a new job) to happen, I hope to be able to see them later this year at Iceland Airwaves festival in Reykjavik! Until then they end up on my Night Magic list.

♫ Kate Boy – Midnight Sun

Finally Kate Boy has announced their long-expected debut album. It’s called ONE, and it’s out in November. You can listen to their new song ‘Midnight Sun‘ which was recorded in Stockholm last December. For now only through the Pitchfork page but hopefully it will be possible to listen on Spotify soon!

♫ Max Richter – King of Sleep

Sounds like Max Richter has composed this for me! Sleep is pretty sacred to me, already as a child I loved to sleep. It’s a way of processing the day (and life in general I suppose)

He has composed a classical eight-hour lullaby that’s appropriately titled ‘SLEEP‘. This piece will be premiered in Berlin this September lasting from midnight to 8 a.m. During this heavenly concert the audience will be lying in beds. Seems like a dream to me and wish I could be there!

You can buy the full eight-hour version digitally on September 4 via Deutsche Grammophon. A one-hour version of the piece will be released on CD, vinyl, and digitally.

What Richter says about it: ‘We spend a third of our lives asleep and it’s always been one of my favourite things, ever since I was a child. … For me, SLEEP is an attempt to see how that space when your conscious mind is on holiday can be a place for music to live.’


However, I’m not convinced that my conscious mind is ever on holiday.. Can’t wait to listen to this! Here’s a teaser..

♫ Parov Stelar – The Demon Diaries

Discovered this night that the album came out and I already have a few favourites: I Need L.O.V.E., The Lonely Trumpet and Keep This Fire Burning. It seems that this album is a bit more electro where the previous ones were more swing. I’m not complaining. Still a huge fan, even after the last concert. 

And this one makes me happy and long for the summer. Oh wait, that has started already 🙂

Parov Stelar – The Sun

♫ Leftfield – Universal Everything

Als je denkt dat het nooit meer gaat gebeuren komt LEFTFIELD opeens met een nieuwe plaat! Zestien jaar hebben we moeten wachten op een vervolg van ‘Leftism’ (1995) en ‘Rhythm and Stealth’ (1999). 
In 2000 was ik er nog bij in een overvolle Ancienne Belgique in Brussel en toen ik het al lang niet meer verwachtte zag ik Leftfield in 2010 opnieuw. Dit keer op de Lokerse feesten met alleen nog Neil Barnes. Paul Daley deed toen inmiddels niet meer mee. Barnes had niks van zijn genialiteit verloren, wat een feestje was het toen ook weer. Je kon wel duidelijk merken dat het jonge grut dat vooraan stond, geen idee had wat voor legendarische held daar op dat podium stond. Ik ga duimen dat ik driemaal scheepsrecht krijg en hem nog een keer live kan zien. 

‘Alternative Light Source’ verschijnt op 8 juni. Hier hoor je alvast een voorproefje. Put on those dancing shoes!


♫ Darkness Falls – Dance And Cry

De Deense Josephine Philip en Ina Lindgreen die samen Darkness Falls vormen, komen op 30 maart met hun nieuwe plaat ‘Dance and Cry‘. Huilen moet ik er niet van, dansen ga ik er ook niet op. Maar man, wat is dat een fijne plaat. Ik ging even één liedje luisteren en kon de hele avond niet meer stoppen. Via de site van The Line of Best Fit was het hele album namelijk al te horen. Een paar jaar geleden was ik ook al verslaafd aan hun liedje ‘Noise on the Line’ en later ook ‘Hey’. Mijn favoriete genre hoef ik jullie niet meer uit te leggen 😉

Eindelijk een mooi clipje erbij! Wat is dit een fantastische ontdekking geweest in 2014. Deze plaat is het hele jaar niet uit m’n playlists geweest en symboliseert mijn nieuwe start in Granada. Op een van de schaarse momenten dat ik mijn internet werkte, kocht ik de plaat snel op Bandcamp. Ondanks dat ik dit liedje enorm vaak heb gehoord (want geen internet en dus geen Spotify), ben ik het nog steeds niet zat. Integendeel! En gewoon uit Nederland! De vinyl variant hiervan staat nog hoog op m’n verlanglijstje! Oh, en een platenspeler 🙂
