Perfect spot to feel the emptiness of everything with all your senses. All the elements were there and I could feel them from within me. Still not sure if I’m happy to feel these things. A bit less wind and waves would do fine too. Maybe it’s just called being me.

It’s in Tarifa by the way, last day of an amazing roadtrip. Went there to see the surf dudes do their thing but as I said: empty..

Bride on the Beach

Northwest of Matalascañas, close to National Park La Doñana, you find many enchanting beaches like this one. You can reach Cuesta de Maneli by traversing a wooden walkway through the pine and juniper covered dunes. This beautiful 1,2 km walk will take you about half an hour. 


At the end of it at 112 meters altitude you will be rewarded with a great view over the Atlantic and the natural monument Acantilado del Asperillo. This is a system of fossil dunes that covers an area of twelve hectares along the coastline. No sign of civilisation as far as you can look. Except for some lost bride on the beach maybe.. Wedding shoots at the beach are very popular in Spain, including diving into the water with dress and all. Maybe it’s just me missing the point of it.

Tapas in TL-verlichte zaken zijn de beste!

Als je een plek zoekt waar je op de echte Spaanse manier tapas kunt eten in Granada, ga dan naar Los Diamantes. Bij voorkeur de vestiging op Calle Rosario 12 waar je weinig tot geen toeristen treft. Aan een statafel bij het immer sfeervolle TL-licht kun je goed zien wat je eet. Een stuk of wat cañas erbij en je komt de avond prima door. Deze ‘navajas’ oftewel scheermesjes zijn overheerlijk en het is dan ook grotendeels seafood waar Los Diamantes bekend om staat. Zorg wel dat je op tijd bent want het is er altijd afgeladen vol met luid pratende Spanjaarden.

La Isla Minima

Afgelopen weekend keek ik de Spaanse film La Isla Mínima van Alberto Rodríguez. Wat ik niet wist, was dat een hoop beelden van deze film zijn geschoten in de Coto de Doñana, het grootste natuurreservaat van Spanje. Laat ik daar nou net komende week naartoe gaan! Erg leuke verrassing om zo alvast een indruk te krijgen.

De film zelf speelt zich af in 1980 in Andalusië, Spanje. Twee tienermeisjes worden vermist in een dodelijk saai en kansloos stadje. Iedereen lijkt er weg te willen in de hoop op een betere toekomst. Vele andere meisjes zijn al vermoord. Twee rechercheurs met totaal verschillende karakters worden op de reeks moorden gezet. Juan, vrouwenversierder die een nogal foute rol had tijdens het Franco regime, en Pedro, brave (toekomstige) huisvader, moeten hun verschillen opzij zetten om de moordenaar te vinden die dit stadje al jarenlang terroriseert.
